Ringing the Peace Bell Ceremony

As part of the celebrations surrounding the Inner Wheel Australia 50th Annual Conference a Ringing the Peace Bell Ceremony was held in Canberra on 18 October, 2018.

International Inner Wheel President Chris Kirby, International Board Director Marilyn Armstrong, Inner Wheel Australia President June Muller, IWA Vice President Robyn Gillespie and IWA Immediate Past President & National Representative Karen Winters participated in the ceremonial ringing of the Canberra Rotary Peace Bell in Canberra Nara Peace Park.

Prior to the ceremony President Chris said that when the Peace Bell tolls she hopes it will encourage everyone to strive for security and harmony world wide, and that it serves as a reminder to Inner Wheel members of the third objective of Inner Wheel: to foster international understanding.

 

IIW President to ring Canberra Rotary Peace Bell

International Inner Wheel President Chris Kirby will participate in a special ringing ceremony at the Canberra Rotary Peace Bell prior to the Inner Wheel Australia 50th Annual Conference being held in Canberra.  The ringing ceremony will take place at Nara Peace Park, 18 October 2018, commencing at 3pm.  A private afternoon tea attended by the IIW President, Inner Wheel Australia Executive and Past Presidents will follow.

The 50th Annual Conference will take place over two days, 19-20 October, in Woden, with Inner Wheel members from all over Australia and a contingent from New Zealand, attending.

The 2018 – 2019 President of International Inner Wheel is from Sydney, Australia.  Chris Kirby, from the Inner Wheel Club of Sydney Inner West, became International President at a special meeting at IIW Headquarters, Altrincham, UK, in June.  The theme chosen by IIW President Chris is Empower and Evolve

Charter of IWC of Corowa Districts

District Membership Chairman Dallice Robins and members of District A54 are to be congratulated – with the IWC of Wollundry being chartered just two months ago, this is the second new club to be chartered in the district this year. Congratulations to all involved and a big IW welcome to all members of the IWC of Corowa Districts.

IWA National Representative Marilyn Armstrong presented the Charter to IWC Corowa inaugural President Noreen Miller. In the foreground one of the orange syrup ‘Celebration’ cakes made by members which was to be the delicious dessert.

IWC Mobilong, SA, in the news

The Inner Wheel Club of Mobilong in District A70 (South Australia) has been featured twice recently in the local newspaper, after a rose planting ceremony outside Murray Bridge Local Government Centre, and after donating money to assist cancer sufferers in regional South Australia.  Click on the photographs to view the full stories.

 

 

 

 

 

 

IIW 2018 Convention Project and Poetry Competition

All Inner Wheel member countries were invited to submit an entry for the Project and Poetry Competition.  The entry was required to showcase that country’s efforts to “Leave a Lasting Legacy”.

The Project and Poetry Competition received 45 fabulous entries which were displayed in the House of Friendship.  The Convention Team had the twenty winning entries and twenty five runners-up compiled into a beautiful book which Convention Coordinator Val Corva had the pleasure of presenting, during the Closing Ceremony, to IIW President Dr. Kapila Gupta as a tribute and thanks for her leadership, her wonderful 2017-2018 year and theme.  These projects truly epitomise the inspirational service work of IIW members globally.
