Kangaroo Island Bush Fire Recovery

The 2019–20 bush fires burnt almost 70 per cent of the Glossies' habitat on the island. Before the 2019–20 bushfires, it was estimated that between 300 and 500 Kangaroo Island Dunnarts lived on the island. The small marsupial had more than 95 per cent of its habitat burnt during the Black Summer fires. With the help of donations from members of Inner Wheel Australia and International Inner Wheel a re-vegetation project was able to take place to help in the preservation of wildlife.  With the co-ordination of District A70, the habitat has re-established itself.

Margarette Golding Recipient – Vivienne Anderson

Margarette Golding Award – Vivienne Anderson

The Inner Wheel Club of Norther Beaches Inc had no hesitation in nominating Vivienne Anderson for the prestigious Margarette Golding Award.  Vivienne over many years has met the criteria of being involved with a variety of charities and organisations within her community for a very long time showing a great deal of commitment and dedication on a regular basis.
Vivienne has a wonderful talent in quilt making and has used this skill to create in excess of 50 quilts that have been donated to families following natural disasters such as bush fires as well as to Bear Cottage, a children’s hospice, and Stuart House, which provides residential care for children from rural areas when in need.  Vivienne has also provided activity cushions for dementia patients as well as sensory snakes to children with intellectual disabilities.
Many other areas of need in her community have benefited greatly from Vivienne’s generous nature and spirit including Dalwood Homes (which assists families in need), Balmoral Beach Surf Club and the Hope for Children’s foundation (an NGO working to transform the lives of the vulnerable).
In addition Vivienne has been a much loved member of Inner Wheel since 1981, serving in all Executive positions including IWA President and IIW Board Director.

Iris Forno

Iris Forno passed away peacefully at the age of 106. Iris was as Charter member and Charter Secretary of the Cairns Inner Wheel Club formed in 1961.  Iris was President in 1972 – 73 and held various positions.  She remained a member till her death. She diligently kept a history of the Cairns Club on a typewriter for many years. She never forgot a face and was so agile. One of Iris’s last official duties as a member was to light the Candle of Friendship at last year’s conference in Cairns. Iris was a legend among Inner Wheel members.  We will miss you Iris.
